Saturday update

It's been a busy day.
After breakfast the Patrols split into two groups to do the climbing wall and tidy the tents.
In the afternoon they built rafts - with varying degrees of success! - as you will have seen from the pictures!
Two out of four rafts made it from the assembly area to the launch jetty - one floated and one disintegrated straight away! But everyone got into the water and had a great time regardless.
The weather has alternated between bright warm sunshine and very heavy short rain showers - but that hasn't dampened anyone's spirits!
The Scouts then had to build altar fires by collecting birch, kindling and logs and lighting the fires without the use of matches. They cooked pizza and chips, followed by bananas and chocolate and cake made in orange skins.
We've had camp sketches by the fire followed by updates from the blog - thanks for your comments - please keep them coming - we'll read out some more at flag-down tomorrow afternoon.
Finally, there was a quick wide game followed by hot chocolate and biscuits before bed.
Another busy day planned for tomorrow.
Night night.

Anyone for camping?

The Leaders have been busy over the last few days finalising the programme, deciding on the menu and buying all of the food. Last night, they met at the Scout Hut to get all the kit out ready for loading on the van this evening.
Don't forget, it's 7.30pm at the Forest Camp site this evening. We will be camping on the 'Birchwood A' site.
All that we need now is some half decent weather, and to keep our fingers crossed that we don't get washed away (literally!) with some of the rain that has been coming down in places not too far away!
See you all later... :-)

Are you watching?

Please post a comment to let us know that you're watching the site and/or will be sending comments at the weekend. If anyone has any problems, email Andrew before Friday to let him know.

Camp Info

Camp ‘uniform’: For those who haven’t camped with us before we do have a few ‘rules’.... we suggest that the Scouts wear shorts during the daytime as if its wet skin tends to dry quicker than soggy jeans/trousers and also the grass, if wet, gets trousers very wet! Please note that we do take account of the weather conditions and let the Scouts put trousers on if it’s cold – however, Tim will not to be happy if the Scouts have no shorts with them!
Footwear on camp should either be boots or ‘sandals’ [performance footwear/desert boots!] With the dew in the morning trainers just get very wet and won’t dry....
No nylon type tracksuit bottoms as we will be cooking on fires over the weekend so no flammable material please.
Usual Requests: no breakables [mp3’s, cameras, mobile phones] – we aren’t insured to replace lost or broken items, etc - any found on camp will be confiscated and returned to parents on Sunday. Any excessive amounts of sweets will be ‘confiscated’ by the Camp ‘Police’ and returned on Sunday. No aerosols please.

Kit List

Please don't forget to ensure that close attention is paid to the Kit List required.
It is best that the Scout packs their own gear – that way they know what’s where! A hold-all is ideal for camping rather than a rucksack or suitcase.
It is important that all items are clearly labelled with the Scout’s name – we always have lost property at the end of camp – and none of it is named!
If you have any queries regarding the kit list, then please contact Tim.
And don't forget that FULL UNIFORM must be worn to and from camp. Scouts should fetch a coat hanger (with trouser bar) to hang their uniform and a new/clean bin bag to cover.

Arrangements

Just a quick reminder that we'll be meeting at Sandiway Camp Site at 7.30pm on Friday 29th June for the Forest Camp (see below for the address and directions).
Collection will be from the camp site at 3:30pm on the Sunday afternoon.
Transport is to be arranged by parents, but it is hoped that some lift sharing can be arranged between parents to minimise the number of vehicles going out to the site. If anyone is struggling with a lift, then please let one of the Leader's know as soon as possible.
The full payment should have already been paid to Tim by now, and Permission To Camp forms should also have been handed in.
Activities on camp will include camp skills, climbing, rafting, games, and of-course: LOTS OF FUN!
